We had Raymonz and Aiken out for their first trip on the James River. We launched early and had bait ready when our guest showed up. We swung back to the ramp and grabbed them and it was on to fishing time. The guys were looking for a cooler full of eater fish on their trip. We had a chilly morning and worked some channel ledges down river. We started the morning off with a nice eater size blue cat.

Another spot and we caught another blue cat.

As the tide rose, the bite slowed in this part of the river, as expected. We started working our way back up river and got on the fish very quickly once back on anchor. The first spot we anchored in landed us about five or six blue catfish, all perfect eaters.

We made a slight adjustment moving over a little bit and started casting for Hickory shad. The Hickory shad were not very active, but we caught another mess of blue catfish bringing us up to about a dozen so far in the trip.

We broke out the grill and had some hotdogs and sausages as we continued to catch fish.

This stretch of river was getting very congested so we moved down river a little bit to get some space. We set the gill net, threw the anchor, and casted for Hickory shad while fishing catfish lines. Once again, no Hickory shad, but we were catching a ton of catfish off the Hickory shad from the morning.

We started to clean the fish for the guys and as we cleaned them, we continue to catch more catfish.
By the end of the trip, we had well over 20 catfish, many of which were cleaned and sent home for the grease.

While this was an Easter trip, we did happen across a chunky 22 pound blue catfish. He was released to fight another day.
Thanks for coming out guys enjoy the fish and I can’t wait for the next trip.
